Belfast Lord Mayor backs hospice run for funds
Belfast Lord Mayor got his running shoes and chain on to help boost the Northern Ireland Hospice 10K Laganside run.
Mairtin O Muilleoir led the charge at yesterday afternoon's run – initially at least – followed by families, runners, marathon hopefuls and hospice volunteers. The aim was to boost funds for the charity.
The Lord Mayor was running the race for Mason McIlveen (4) from south Belfast, who receives specialised care at NI Children's Hospice. Mason, who was diagnosed with Down's syndrome, suffered five cardiac arrests within the first three months of his life.
"Having met little Mason it was impossible not to be touched by his fighting spirit and infectious personality," Mr O Muilleoir said.
After the race, he tweeted: "Just finished Laganside 10k for mighty Mason McIlveen & NI Hospice. Great guy and great Hospice volunteers made it a special day 4 Belfast".
