Belfast man beaten by balaclava-wearing thugs after bid to 'entice' victim outside

A Northern Ireland man has been beaten in his own home by two balaclava-wearing men after an attempt to 'entice' him to go outside.

It happened in the Willowfield Street area of east Belfast in the early hours of Sunday morning.

At around 5.30am the male occupier of the house was in his back garden when he heard a banging on the front window of the property.

Approaching the window he observed a man who police say was trying to "entice" him outside.

When he opened his front door the man ran away.

Around an hour after this there was a knock at his front door, and when he opened it he was assaulted by two men wearing balaclavas, who forced their way inside and left him with scrapes and bruises.

The PSNI is asking anyone who noticed any suspicious activity of vehicles in the area between 5.30am and 6.30am on Sunday morning to contact Musgrave Police Station on 101, quoting the reference 110 with the date 01/07/2018.

Alternatively the public can contact independent charity Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
