A man from Belfast has died in Spain after he fell from a balcony at a tourist hotspot.

It's understood that Colin McGarry from Belfast, who was in his 40s, fell from a balcony in Benidorm some time between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Local police have confirmed they are aware of the incident, but said they would not be releasing more details until today.

Colin Bell from the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, a charity that helps families in Ireland who have lost loved ones abroad, said the organisation was providing assistance.

At this stage, no funeral details have been announced.

The SDLP councillor for Oldpark, Paul McCusker, paid tribute to the family on social media.

"Deepest sympathies to the McGarry family from the Oldpark on the tragic death of Colin who died while on holiday in Spain, a big gentleman. My thoughts and prayers are with his heartbroken family at this extremely difficult time."
