By Ashleigh McDonald

A man caught with a bag of heroin hidden between his buttocks has been remanded in custody.

Stephen Mark Kevin Bolton (24), from Monagh Drive in Belfast, appeared at the city's Crown Court on three counts of possessing the class A drug.

He was remanded into custody and will be sentenced on Friday.

A prosecutor told the court that on September 1, 2012, police were alerted to two men acting suspiciously close to the CastleCourt Shopping Centre on Belfast's Royal Avenue.

Officers apprehended the pair in a cafe, with the prosecutor revealing that Bolton "was seen trying to hide something down the back of his trousers".

The suspects were detained and a search of Bolton revealed two small wraps of heroin amounting to .39 grams. Bolton underwent a strip-search in custody, and a bag containing around 4.1 grams of heroin was found between his buttocks.

The PSNI estimated the smaller wraps to have a street value of around £25 each, while the bigger bag contained around £500 of heroin.
