Belfast Mayor Máirtín Ó Muilleoir opts to send Christmas festive greetings by email
The Lord Mayor of Belfast is breaking with tradition this year by sending his festive greetings electronically.
Máirtín Ó Muilleoir is a keen user of social media and this year has become the first Lord mayor to email his Christmas card. "We're moving with the times here at City Hall," he said.
"And I am delighted that the contemporary nature of the card is a real talking point too. I'm a big fan of artist Conrad Atkinson's work."
The card carries an image of Atkinson's painting The Golden Fleece/The Good Shepherd which features a flock of sheep adorned with splashes of glitter.
Expressing his hopes for a peaceful and happy festive season for all, the Lord Mayor said: "When I launched my vision for Belfast earlier this year I spoke of my commitment to 'build the future Belfast – together'. That desire is as strong as ever. I'm confident that the great people of Belfast will continue to work together to achieve our aim of a city making the wonderful journey from conflict to peace and helping to put our economy back on track.
"Belfast has a great story to tell potential investors and much to offer those already living and working here.
"I wish everyone a happy and peaceful Christmas with a timely reminder to remember those within our communities who most need our support at what, for some, is a difficult time of the year," he added.
