Belfast pensioner dies after robbery attempt
A pensioner has died after he was injured during an attempted robbery in west Belfast, police said today.
Detectives launched a murder inquiry after Samuel Crawford, 75, from Cavendish Street, died following the incident yesterday afternoon.
Police want to speak to two women passers-by, possibly nurses, who helped the victim after the incident. Anyone with information has been asked to contact police.
A man aged 19 has been charged with attempted robbery, possession of a prohibited article and assault. He will appear at Belfast Magistrates' Court this morning.
MP Gerry Adams said: "It is deeply regrettable that Mr Crawford has passed away following the robbery in Cavendish Street and the horrific events that have surrounded it.
"I offer my sincerest sympathies to his family at this time and my thoughts and prayers and those of the local community are with them at this time."
