Belfast police car in serious road collision near Forestside

By Staff Reporter

There was traffic chaos in south Belfast on Saturday after a vehicle burst into flames following a collision.

A police car was involved in the incident, close to the busy Forestside shopping centre, around opening time. The other vehicle burst into flames following the crash, which took place at the junction of the Saintfield and Upper Knockbreda Roads shortly after 9am.

The Upper Knockbreda Road was closed for a time while the emergency services dealt with the situation.

As a result there were major tailbacks and traffic chaos right across the area.

By last night the police had not released any further details surrounding the circumstances of the incident.

The Police Ombudsman is now involved in the investigation into what happened.
