Belfast police chase ends in Co Down town in crash with patrol cars

A police car chase which began in Belfast ended in Newtownards on Friday afternoon after the vehicle hit two of the patrol cars that had been in pursuit and another car.

It began when road policing officers attempted to flag down a BMW car on Queen Elizabeth Bridge in the city at around 2.30pm. It did not stop and police gave chase.

"Specially trained officers pursued the car from Belfast to Newtownards where it was stopped by officers on Francis Street after it collided with two police cars and another car," said a police spokesman.

No injuries were reported and a 25-year-old man was arrested.

He remains in police custody and is being questioned on suspicion of a number of motoring offences.
