Belfast police silence over Ormeau shooting baffling, says Green MLA
Residents in a quiet south Belfast street have been left baffled by the police silence over a shooting incident on Saturday night, according to a Green Party MLA.
Clare Bailey said a 34-year-old man was taken to hospital in an ambulance after the incident, which took place in Jameson Street off the Ormeau Road.
His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
She said that none of the residents she had spoken to knew who lived in the house, which was damaged in the shooting.
"It's odd that the police have not released any information about the shooting - not even an appeal for witnesses or information," Ms Bailey said.
"All they would tell me was that it was not a murder.
"The whole street was sealed off."
The MLA added: "The house where the shooting happened is at the St Jude's end of Jameson Street. It has broken windows and bullet holes. Elderly residents are very upset, they're really shaken up."
