The clock at the top of fire-ravaged Bank Buildings in the centre of Belfast was yesterday taken down by contractors.
Salvage work is continuing apace at the former Primark premises ahead of Christmas, and yesterday the famous feature was removed from the facade.
The completion of this phase will mark an important step towards the eventual restoration of the landmark listed building.
Every piece of masonry and plinth removed is being carefully numbered and catalogued so that they can be rebuilt to the precise specification of the original building.
After Christmas, work will commence on removing the second top tier of the building which, when completed, should allow a further relaxation of the cordon and the reopening of nearby businesses that are still closed on safety grounds.
