Belfast restaurant owner devastated as burglars damage business
The owner of a highly-rated Belfast city centre restaurant has spoken of his shock and sadness after burglars targeted his business.
Vijay Kumar has been running Lantern on Wellington Place for around four years, serving up contemporary cuisine.
The PSNI believe the burglary took place around 3.30am yesterday morning.
Vijay said he was devastated to discover that his business had been burgled and substantial damage caused.
"In four years I have never seen anything like this," he said.
"It's not just a restaurant, it is my livelihood, and now we are having to close until we get all this fixed. It's very bad for business."
The Lantern has attracted an average 4.5/5 on the Trip Advisor website, with over 400 diners rating their experience there as excellent.
A PSNI spokeswoman said: "Police are appealing for witnesses following the report of a burglary at a restaurant in the Wellington Place area of Belfast in the early hours of this morning, Monday.
"At approximately 3.30am the premises were entered and a sum of cash and a quantity of alcohol stolen.
"Constable Matt Brown would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident, or anyone who has information that would assist the police investigation, to contact police on 101."
