Belfast Scout to fly flag for the UK at rally

By Staff Reporter

Gareth Thompson from Belfast is set to represent the UK at the 15th World Scout Moot.

The Moot is a gathering of Scouts aged 18 to 25 from across the globe. This summer, the event - held every four years - will be in the dramatic volcanic landscape of Iceland.

Gareth said it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

"I get so many amazing opportunities in the Scouts and I can't wait to learn some new skills and make some new friends from around the world at the World Scout Moot," he added.

Chief Scout Bear Grylls wished the participants well, saying: "I am sure it's going to be a trip to remember."

The Donaghadee-born Old Etonian and TV personality added: "I have filmed many times in Iceland, and it is an incredible place to adventure and develop new skills that you can use throughout the rest of your life.

"It's also a place that tests what you are made of."
