Belfast security alert ends after suspicious object declared not viable

A security alert in north Belfast has come to an end after a suspicious object discovered in the area was declared not viable.

The alert in the Shore Crescent area has ended and residents who had been evacuated have now returned to their homes.

Army Technical Officers examined the object at the scene.

A section of the area which had been closed to traffic has now been reopened.

"I want to thank residents for their patience while we worked to keep the community safe," Inspector David McBride said.

"Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 516 of 10/09/18."

Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
