Belfast shop keeper and worker fined over illegal underage sale of cigarettes

A Belfast shop keeper, and a shop worker, have been fined over the illegal sale of cigarettes.

Stephen Taylor, trading as Taylor’s Day Today on Skegoneill Avenue, was fined £250 on each of two counts:  displaying cigarettes to a person under the age of 18 years, and subsequently selling cigarettes to the same last September.

In a second case, Anne Marie Foley, from Cluain Mor Drive, was fined £400 for selling cigarettes to a person under the age of 18 years at McGovern’s in Cavendish Street, last May.

Both defendants were also ordered to pay £69 each in costs to Belfast City Council, who brought the prosecutions.

There have been five cases of this nature this month.
