Belfast teen stabbed while trying to protect pal
A man injured in a West Belfast stabbing was attacked while trying to protect a female friend.
The 17-year-old victim suffered a number of stab wounds during the incident in the Bell Steel Road area in the early hours of Saturday.
The attack followed an altercation involving a man near the junction of the Bell Steel Road and Glenwood Court shortly after 2am.
The youth was treated in hospital for a number of stab wounds to his back and arm, none of which are believed to be life threatening.
The man involved is aged around 40 and of heavy build.
It is understood that he had tried to attack a female friend of the victim.
Sinn Fein councillor Charlene O'Hara condemned the stabbing.
"These attacks have a severely damaging impact on our entire city and must stop immediately," she said.
She urged anyone with information to contact police.
