The Belfast Telegraph has been nominated for a series of awards at this year's prestigious Regional Press Awards.

We have received four nominations for the awards, which recognise and celebrate the very best journalism across the UK.

Photographer Kevin Scott is shortlisted in the Daily/Sunday Photographer of the Year category.

Sports journalist Gareth Hanna is shortlisted in the Digital Live Sports Reporter of the Year category.

Chief designer Heather Byrne is shortlisted as Designer of the Year.

The Belfast Telegraph is shortlisted in the Daily/Sunday Newspaper of the Year category.

Our sister newspaper, the Sunday Life, is shortlisted in the same category.

Sunday Life sports editor Paul Ferguson is shortlisted in the Sports Journalist of the Year (weekly newspaper) category.

The prizes will be handed out at a lunchtime ceremony to be held at the IET, Savoy Place in London on Friday, May 17.

The awards are organised by the Society of Editors on behalf of the industry.

This year's awards see a new emphasis on rewarding smaller newspapers and digital journalism with the number of categories increasing from 28 to 38.

Society of Editors executive director Ian Murray said: "We have seen record entries for this year's Regional Press Awards, and I know that the judges have had a tremendously difficult task in choosing the nominated journalists and papers from such an excellent field of entries."

The awards ceremony will once again be hosted by LBC radio presenter Nick Ferrari.
