Belfast TeleTech call centre to hire 140 people in new boost

By John Mulgrew

A US call centre firm is creating 140 jobs in north Belfast - little more than a year after it slashed almost 200 jobs from the same site.

TeleTech in Colorado is hiring new staff for its Duncairn Gardens base after landing a contract to work with an international mobile phone operator.

The firm provides customer service for a host of companies across the world.

The company held a number of recruitment days at its north Belfast base this week and last.

The announcement comes a year after the loss of a major contract led to 197 jobs being cut at the call centre in Duncairn Gardens.

But the new posts have been welcomed by North Belfast SDLP MLA Alban Maginness.

He said: "If jobs are being created, then it's a great thing for any community - particularly in north Belfast.

"Regrettably, the call centre business is subject to the international communications markets, and their highs and lows."

In a statement, the firm said: "These positions are great for people with customer service experience and those looking to start a career with TeleTech, as they involve working with a globally-recognised telecommunications clients."

The company has been operating at Duncairn Gardens since 2001.
