Belfast to Bangor railway line and Sydenham Bypass reopen following east Belfast security alert

A security alert at Titanic halt in east Belfast has ended after Army technical officers examined a suspicious object but found "nothing untoward".

The railway line had been closed between Belfast Central and Bangor. The Sydenham Bypass was closed in both directions with country bound traffic being diverted at Dee Street and city-bound traffic at Tillysburn Junction.

PSNI Superintendent Darrin Jones said: "I would like to thank members of the public for their co-operation and patience throughout the incident.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused but public safety is of paramount importance and this was necessary to ensure the safety of the local community and to protect everyone.”

Both the railway line and Sydenham Bypass have now reopened.

A security alert has also been reported in Londonderry.
