A woman allegedly armed herself with a knife and went towards a bookmakers shop to look for her former boyfriend, a court hears

A woman who allegedly armed herself with a knfie and went looking for her ex-partner was unaware he's in prison, the High Court heard on Friday.

Carla Kilifin is accused of heading towards a south Belfast bookmakers frequented by her former boyfriend and saying she wanted to kill him.

The 24-year-old was detained on waste ground near Botanic Avenue after brandishing a knife and surgical glove, prosecutors said.

Kilifin, of Blackstaff Mews in the city, faces charges of possessing a bladed article in public, threats to kill and assault on police.

She was granted bail but banned from having any contact with her alleged target.

Kilifin was said to have taken drink and diazepam before she was arrested in the area on February 11.

It was claimed that she was abusive to police and later told them of a plan to stab her ex-partner.

Ruling on her bail application, Mr Justice Maguire said: "It turned out to be the case that her former partner was in prison and would be in prison for some time to come.

"As the defence pointed out, the risk (of releasing her) is a limited one as there's no ready access to him for at least a number of months."

Imposing a ban on alcohol and drugs as part of the bail conditions, the judge added: "I hope Cara understands it's of extreme importance that she seeks to get some assistance for herself."
