Belfast's Lord Mayor leads tributes to Northern Ireland war dead
Belfast Lord Mayor Nuala McAllister placed a cross in the city's 2017 Field of Remembrance after it opened yesterday to remember those who gave their lives for their country.
The Royal British Legion commemoration marked the supreme sacrifice made by countless men and women in every branch of the services.
A short act of remembrance was conducted by Rev Canon Samuel McVeigh, the Northern Ireland Chaplain of the Royal British Legion; Rev Dr Isaac Thompson, Regimental Chaplain of the Royal Irish Regiment; and Lt Col Alex Bennett, 38 Brigade Senior Padre.
Afterwards, buglers playing the Last Post and Reveille, and lone piper Francis Strain of the UDR Association, Belfast, played while crosses were placed at the Field of Remembrance at Belfast City Hall.
