Belfast's mayor turns Belfast City Hall lawn into football pitch on World Cup semi-final day
As World Cup fever has taken over every corner of the Earth, Belfast's Lord Mayor opened up the front lawn of City Hall for a mini soccer tournament.
Nichola Mallon has ‘A City of Enjoyment’ as one of her themes for celebrating the ‘Best of Belfast’ during her term in office.
And on Wednesday, while the Netherlands and Argentina were gearing up for their semi-final clash, six teams of under 13 girls competed in a five-a-side contest.
They represented each part of Belfast - Albert Foundary, Cliftonville, Crusaders, Glentoran, Rosario and St Oliver Plunkett.
Later an IFA select team including retired players came onto the 'pitch' to face a team of councillors representing the city's political parties.
The evening concluded with coverage of the World Cup semi final on the Big Screen.
