Belfast's Victoria Square shopping centre was evacuated yesterday as police investigated a suspected bomb.

The security alert was called after police received reports that a suspicious object had been left in the shopping complex.

The alert, which lasted almost three hours, was finally called off just before lunchtime.

A police spokesperson said “nothing untoward was found”.

A security alert at the Tower Centre in Ballymena yesterday was also a hoax.
