Big Honey peacock causes a flap after strutting stuff down motorway in Northern Ireland

By Luke Barnes

A plucky peacock caused traffic mayhem yesterday when it took a stroll down the side of the M1.

The bird, named Big Honey, was spotted near the Broadway on-slip at around midday.

Damien Lindsay, who helped rescue the brightly-coloured bird, said it was from a west Belfast community farm.

Rescuers attempted to coax it back to safety but it instead flew up to the rooftop of a house.

Big Honey was only coaxed down after corn was scattered below.

Damien said: "At the end of the day nobody was hurt so everybody could laugh about it."

Unfortunately, Big Honey will now have his wings clipped to prevent any future flights of fancy.
