Belfast Telegraph Sports Star of the Year Jonathan Rea has been honoured again.

The four-time world superbike champion from Ballyclare has received the honorary title Freeman of the Borough of Antrim and Newtownabbey.

Last night more than 200 racing fans along with friends and family attended a public ceremony in the Theatre at The Mill, Newtownabbey.

The racing champ said: "To be made a Freeman of the Borough is a humbling experience and a significant honour for which I am extremely grateful and which I shall continue to treasure."

He added: "I want to thank all those who not only have taken the time to join me here on this special occasion, but have supported me and travelled with me at my races all over the world."

The title, which allows the recipient to take livestock to market through the streets of the borough, is the council's highest award.
