Bishops sign up for shared 30-mile walk

By Staff Reporter

Two Bishops of Derry - one Catholic, the other Church of Ireland - have signed up for a 30-mile walk to promote reconciliation.

Over three days from April 27, Dr Donal McKeown and the Rt Rev Ken Good will walk from St Columba's birthplace at Gartan, in Donegal, to St Augustine's Church in Derry, which the saint founded.

The gruelling hike shouldn't task the leg muscles of either church leader too much, as they have both completed marathons in their time.

They are, however, hoping to meet people and visit places along the route and will pray with parishioners in local churches.

Later this year joint walks will take them from Claudy to Strabane on September 14 and from Limavady to Garvagh on September 16.

"We will be providing an example of shared Christian witness and we look forward to seeing what God does with our walking," the bishops said.
