Police have confirmed the device at the centre of a security alert in the Dunmurry area was a bomb.

Police cordoned off an area in Old Colin on Monday morning, closing a number of roads leading to disruption to travel.

For most of the day the Army bomb squad was on the scene examining the suspicious object.

Just before 4pm, police confirmed the object was "viable" and all roads reopened.

Officers in the PSNI's Terrorist Investigation Unit appealed to anyone who has information that could help with the police investigation to contact the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference 206 24/06/19.

Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
