Bomb hoax in east Belfast sees street evacuated

By Chris Kilpatrick

Residents were evacuated from their homes during a hoax bomb alert in east Belfast.

A suspect object was discovered yesterday at Jocelyn Street.

Avoniel Leisure Centre was opened up to those affected.

The object was examined by Army Ammunition Technical Officers who declared it a hoax.

DUP councillor Adam Newtown said: "For whatever reason this hoax bomb incident was created it was wrong and must be condemned. This incident wasted police resources and the time of the Army bomb squad officers."

Police have appealed for information.
