Boost for O'Neill's men as team up to record 25th place in world

By Staff Reporter

Northern Ireland have reached number 25 in the Fifa world rankings - the international team's best ever position.

The team, managed by Michael O'Neill and their Green and White Army of fans will now travel to the European Championships in France with an added spring in their step after this month's rankings bumped the team up one place.

It puts Northern Ireland one place above fellow Euro 2016 finalists Wales in the June rankings.

England moved out of the top 10, down one to 11.

Meanwhile, the Republic of Ireland - who will also appear at this summer's finals - moved down two places to 33.

Scotland, the only home nation not involved in the tournament, also dropped three places, to 43.

Northern Ireland play Slovakia in a friendly tomorrow night before their group games against Poland, Ukraine and Germany in France.
