Borthern Ireland Army bomb vehicle catches fire on M1

By Staff Reporter

An army bomb disposal vehicle caught fire as it was tasked to a scene by the PSNI.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed it was on the way to an incident and caught fire. The M1 was closed in both directions between junctions 14 at Tamnamore and 15 Stangmore. It has since re-opened. The Fire Service said the blaze was accidental.

The incident happened as the PSNI was dealing with a security alert in Co Fermanagh following the report of a suspicious object. Inspector Rory Hoy said: "Following a search of the area, nothing untoward was found. The safety of the community is of paramount importance and we will not take any risks. However, I want to thank the local community for their patience and understanding during this operation."
