Boxing hero Carl Frampton's knockout meal is a fish supper

He had the world at his feet – but all Carl Frampton wanted was a fish supper.

While Ulster Rugby fans have been licking their wounds, boxing fans have spent the weekend revelling in the glory of Frampton's latest win.

The future is looking very bright for the super-bantamweight Belfast boxer, known as The Jackal, with a blockbuster showdown fight in the US against Leo Santa Cruz now looking very likely.

The 27-year-old Tiger's Bay hero was the toast of the boxing world this weekend, but rather than quaffing champagne and a luxury feast, the down-to-earth family man celebrated Friday's second round win with a fish supper and of course the company of his beautiful wife Christine and their three-year-old daughter Carla.

The Lisburn-based couple are floating on air after Carl, roared on by a 9,000 strong crowd, knocked out Mexican fighter Hugo Cazares in the second round of a WBC World super-bantamweight title final eliminator at the Odyssey Arena.

Carl took to Twitter to share his weekend experiences with fans and make a lighthearted comment aimed at his other half.

"I went to bed at 3am, I've already been up for an hour and I cant sleep. To make things worse @XtineDorrian (Christine) is snoring beside me," he wrote.

Christine playfully replied: "Try getting woke up with someone chewing stale sandwiches in your ear like a big horse."

After a gruelling diet and exercise regime ahead of fight night on Saturday, Carl said he enjoyed "a lazy day with lots of gorging".

"Christine got a McDonald's but I'm going for a taco chip and a fish – that's our celebration," he said.

Christine confirmed that her 5ft 5in husband has a big appetite and "eats like a 7ft man. You wouldn't believe it unless you saw it," she said.

Carl Frampton's dream is to fight in New York or Vegas
