Boy kicked in face during attack

A teenage boy suffered facial injuries during an attack in Belfast city centre.

He was walking home with three friends when he was set upon by a gang of four men on North Street at about 5.10pm on Easter Tuesday.

It is understood he was kicked about the head a number of times.

The attackers only ceased their vicious assault when two passers-by pulled up in a car to offer assistance to the victim.

Police are investigating a sectarian motive for the attack, which was captured on CCTV.

DUP councillor Ian Crozier said there had been an number of similar incidents in the area.

He said: “It’s quite a worrying development that we have people in the city centre who think it is a good idea to attack members of another community.

“It is something that has been going on for a while.”

A PSNI spokesman said officers were appealing for information.

“Anyone who noticed any unusual activity in the area or who has any information is asked to contact police at Tennent Street on 0845 600 8000,” he said.
