Brave Co Antrim boy Garron Donnelly enjoys day with X Factor star as he undergoes cancer treatment

By Staff Reporter

A brave Co Antrim boy who is receiving treatment for cancer has enjoyed a fun-filled experience with an X Factor star at a special party held to salute the courage of youngsters coping with the disease.

Nine-year-old Garron Donnelly - who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in 2013 - was a guest of honour at the circus-themed Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens Star Awards party.

Garron and his family met party host Stacey Solomon before receiving a medal from the presenter and reality TV star.

His cancer was first discovered when his mother noticed a painful lump on the side of his neck. His mum Ruth said: "I can't even begin to explain how it feels to be told your child has cancer.

"Garron's diagnosis turned our lives upside down and our first thoughts were that we were going to lose him. We're so grateful for the treatment that saved his life. Success stories like ours would not be possible without Cancer Research UK's life-saving work."
