Brave passer-by rescues victim from burning house in Belfast

A brave passer-by has saved a man in his 80s from his burning home in Belfast.

Firefighters were called to Lenadoon Avenue in Belfast on Tuesday evening after reports of a property being on fire.

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) spokesperson said: "Crews from Springfield and Cadogan arrived to find a semi-detached property well alight. Thankfully prior to arrival a passer-by managed to rescue a man in his 80s from the property and he is now in the care of the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service."

The spokesman added crews have been able to bring the blaze under control with four fire-fighting jets whilst wearing breathing apparatus.

The crews remain at the scene, damping down the fire and investigating the cause.
