Gale force winds and stinging rain lashed Northern Ireland yesterday.

In coastal areas, the storms whipped sea spray over coastal defences making driving conditions difficult.

The Met Office said the high winds will ease off, with today being fine, dry, and sunny, with a few light showers possible this afternoon.

The forecasters said freshening southerly winds will develop this evening as showery rain spreads from the west.

Maximum temperatures in Northern Ireland today are expected to be around 9C.

The weekend is expected to be colder, with a frosty start in the mornings, followed by rain - and some snow lying on the hills.
