Castlereagh Borough Council is offering free testing on all electric blankets during a special home safety roadshow on Thursday September 30.
The roadshow will take place at the Council Civic Centre from 10am to 4pm and will offer householders the opportunity to obtain a free safety check on their electric blanket as well as discover practical safety tips and advice on doorstep crime, accidents at home, fire safety and home security.
The Mayor of Castlereagh, Councillor Vivienne McCoy said, “In Northern Ireland every year, over 70 people die in home accidents and almost 70,000 visit their local Accident and Emergency Departments as a result of accidents involving falls, scalds and burns. The roadshow is a great opportunity for the people of Castlereagh to increase their awareness on home safety and gain practical advice which could prevent accidents or serious injury in the home.”
The home safety roadshow will include information stands from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, Castlereagh’s Home Accident Prevention Group, Warmer Homes and many more.
A free electric blanket testing service will be provided by DM Electrics; however spaces will be limited therefore early booking is essential.
Mrs Kellie Harris, Environmental Health Officer added, “We hope the roadshow will highlight the importance of home safety and provide useful advice, signposting and support to prevent accidents in the home. The event will also provide an opportunity to chat to local services on a range of issues over a cup of tea or coffee.”
Community groups and individuals are warmly invited to attend the roadshow. To book your space at the home safety roadshow, please contact the Council's Environmental Health Service on 028 9049 4640 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
