Burberry puts singer Lilla Vargen in the spotlight at Mount Stewart

By Claire Williamson

It was a beautiful location to showcase a rising singing star from Northern Ireland.

As part of the Burberry Acoustic Sessions, the fashion brand has filmed nearly 100 performances by stars such as James Bay and Keane, achieving over 19m views on YouTube.

The most recent to be featured was Lilla Vargen, a 25-year-old singer-songwriter from Ballymena, Co Antrim.

Since sharing her first song, This Is Love, at the beginning of this year via Soundcloud, Lilla has grabbed the attention of music lovers around the world.

"I think they (Burberry) heard This Is Love via Soundcloud and reached out from there," she said.

"Burberry are renowned for having their finger on the pulse when it comes to new British music and also being great supporters of up and coming artists."

The videos are often shot outdoors and Lilla's was filmed at the stunning Mount Stewart estate in Co Down.

She said: "It's such a magnificent location with such a brilliant combination of natural and crafted beauty. To be outside on a baby grand piano singing my own songs was quite intimidating, but also very rewarding."

It's been a busy year for the singer with her debut show in June at the Mac in Belfast followed by a headline gig in the Odessa Club in Dublin. Next month she plays the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival in Dublin.

Lilla said: "The past year has been a bit of a blur. Sharing music is quite a personal experience, you never know how other people are going to respond, so to get such a positive reaction is really encouraging. From playing my first show in Belfast in June, then another in Dublin in August, and now sharing this session, it's all been a great experience and one I hope to build on."

The session audio will be on iTunes and Spotify. For more info search Lilla Vargen on Facebook/ Twitter.
