Burglar is jailed for four years
A “career criminal” who was sniffed out hiding on the roof of a hairdressers has been jailed for four years for burglary.
Belfast Recorder, Judge David McFarland, sentenced 39-year-old Jason Thompson to a year in custody and three on remand after hearing details of his offence on September 13 last year.
The court was told that police officers, including a dog handler, attended Eden Hair Salon on the Lisburn Road in Belfast at about 11pm on that date after their burglar alarm went off.
Prosecuting lawyer David McClean told the court that when the dog was released, it led them to an open skylight and when they looked outside, they spotted Thompson, of Tate’s Avenue, carrying a rucksack. A search of the bag revealed four screwdrivers, a hammer, several gloves and a woollen hat.
Jailing Thompson, Judge McFarland said given his appalling criminal record of more then 100 previous convictions including 77 for burglary, “you are essentially a career criminal”.
