Burglars hit man with hammer

A man was hit over the head with a hammer and another was stabbed in the head with a broken bottle during separate burglaries in north Belfast, police have said.

In the early hours of Saturday morning three males forced their way into a house in the New Lodge Road area and struck a 31-year-old man over the head with a bottle and then stabbed him in the head with the broken remains of the glass.

He sustained facial injuries, a black eye and swelling and cuts to his head.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Later that evening, shortly before 7.20pm, four men, one armed with a hammer, forced their way into a house in the Alexandra Park Avenue area. A 24-year-old occupant was hit over the head with a hammer. Police said his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

After the attack the men, who were wearing hoods, made off on foot towards the Dunmore Park area.
