Burglars located by dogs and helicopter

By Staff Reporter

A police helicopter, dogs and a tactical support group unit were used to catch two burglars who raided a house in Downpatrick.

Officers took action after receiving a report of two men forcing entry in to a house at around 10pm on Wednesday.

The pair ran off with house and car keys after they were disturbed during the break-in, making their way to a white Volkswagen Golf that was later found abandoned.

A 35 year-old was subsequently arrested on suspicion of burglary after a man was spotted in nearby fields, and a 44-year-old was arrested hours later.

Detective Sergeant Bardon said: "These arrests were the result of partnership work between the public, district police officers, tactical support group officers, air support and dog support.

"We are always more successful in tackling crime whenever we work together.

"I would like to thank the public who provided information to us and helped us to locate these males."
