Four awards have been made in the latest round of Blair Mayne Bursaries, with two talented sportsmen, a medical student and a tall ship adventurer all receiving £500 to fulfil their ambitions.
Winner of the Bursary in Memory of Teddy Mayne, was 17-year-old Jonathan Breen, who will use his bursary to fund costs associated with competitions across Ireland in 2010.
Christopher Toner, 18, was awarded the Bursary for Sport to allow him to continue developing his skills as a top Clay Bird Shooter.
Sport also featured in the award for Academic Study, which will contribute to medical student Alistair Mayne’s training with the doctor of the West Indies cricket team and one of the world’s leading sports medicine specialists, Dr Akshai Mansingh.
Winner in the Adventure Training category, Jennifer Whittaker, 15, will be using her bursary to take up a challenge of sailing a tall ship this summer between Aberdeen and Newcastle.
