Burst water mains: Up to 1,000 homes affected in north Belfast

Up to 1,000 homes in north Belfast have been hit by a burst water main.

NI Water has said it is dealing with a 'burst trunk main', which could cause a lack of water supplies or low pressure to around 1,000 homes.

A spokesman said: We are advising customers served by this main that they will experience an interruption to their water supply or low pressure.

"It is estimated that just under 1,000 properties are currently affected mainly in the North Belfast (Belfast Castle) area.

"We anticipate this figure will fall over the next few hours."

Playing fields and changing rooms close to the Valley Leisure Centre in Newtownabbey have been flooded as a result of the burst main.

NI Water has said staff were working to fix the issue.
