Business water charges to decrease

Average water and sewerage charges to businesses are to fall by almost 3%, it has been revealed.

NI Water said cost efficiencies enabled the reduction from next month.

Chief executive Trevor Haslett said: "We are delighted that in these difficult economic times, we are able to reduce water and sewerage bills for customers."

He added: "We are committed to providing the highest possible quality of service while constantly seeking best value for money. This work undertaken by staff at all levels in the company has enabled us to pass on savings made to our customers."

Metered customers will see a decrease in their combined water and sewerage bills of approximately 1.3%. Unmeasured customers will see their combined bills decrease by approximately 3.6%. Average reductions are 2.7%.

The charges for the 2013/14 year have been agreed by the Utility Regulator in conjunction with the Consumer Council for Northern Ireland (CCNI).

Jo Aston, director of water at the regulator, said: "Today's announcement by NI Water is good news for businesses, especially considering the financial pressures on their budgets. "
