Caffe Nero have moved to dispel claims a homeless man was refused service at one of its chains in Belfast.

Users on social media claimed the incident happened at Caffe Nero on Belfast's Lombard Street on Tuesday.

A Caffe Nero spokesperson, however, said those who reported it had misunderstood the situation and after, reviewing CCTV footage, confirmed the homeless man in question was in fact served.

Caffe Nero initially apologised after the incident was reported to their main Facebook page.

"We are sorry that this customer was turned away. It is certainly NOT company policy to refuse service to homeless people and we will be investigating this with the store in question and taking action to prevent this happening again," they wrote.

In a another post, Caffe Nero said they will "ensure this is communicated to our teams at store level".
