Call to stop Union Jacks from flagging

Ballymena Councillor, Davy Tweed has slammed communities in his area for allowing their flags to deteriorate over time, requesting that they ensure their flying emblems are in pristine condition for the upcoming Jubilee celebrations.

At a recent meeting, the councillor said: “If you erect it, you should respect it and now is the time to get this sorted. Even the flag on the town hall is going into disrepair.”

Other councillors in attendance agreed with Mr Tweed while one councillor encouraged residents to fly the Union Jack from their homes this summer because there was a surplus of tricolours in the area.

Councillor Roy Gillespie said: “Homeowners should fly the Union flag proudly, there are too many tricolours on show.”
