Cancer campaigners to host major music show

Campaigning cancer survivors in Londonderry are to host a major musical event during the upcoming Jazz Festival.

The Pink Ladies have teamed up with the Gasyard Feile to host a ska band at Gasyard Park on Saturday, May 6, as part of the city’s largest festival.

The band will be housed in a temporary outdoor structure and will perform to a crowd of around 500.

The Pink Ladies have been instrumental in campaigning for cancer treatment facilities for the North West.

They helped get the decision to pull funding for a new radiotherapy centre in Derry overturned once Edwin Poots took over the Health portfolio from Michael McGimpsey last year.

Belfast ska outfit Doghouse will perform hits from bands such as The Specials, Bad Manners, The Beat and Madness.

Tickets are now are available from the Gasyard and priced at £7.50 with proceeds going the The Pink Ladies.

Meanwhile the organisers of the 2012 City of Derry Jazz Festival have confirmed that Irish soul sensations, The Stars from the Commitments, are to deliver a festival finale to remember. They will take to the stage on May 6 at DaVinci's Hotel.
