Cannabis haul: suspect charged

A 31-year-old man is due in court charged with growing cannabis after police seized a car and 74 plants worth an estimated £37,000.

Detectives in Larne have charged him with cultivation of cannabis, possession of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply, criminal damage and preventing a meter from registering electricity supplied.

The man is due to appear at Ballymena Magistrates' Court this morning. All charges will be reviewed by the PPS.

The charges follow a series of police searches in the Kent Avenue and Gardenmore Place area of Larne on Friday evening in which a large number of cannabis plants was seized.

They have asked landlords in the area to check for suspicious activity in the homes they are renting.
