Car crash Fermanagh pensioner dies in hospital

By Cate McCurry

A pensioner has died days after he was involved in a three-car collision in Co Fermanagh.

The man, aged in his 70s, was rushed to hospital at 4pm on Saturday after he was involved in the accident on the Drumwhinny Road in Kesh. However, he died in hospital on Monday.

DUP councillor David Mahon said the accident happened only yards from his home in Kesh.

"I was on the scene fairly quickly because I was so close, so I wanted to make sure it was no one I knew and to help out," he explained.

"It's a completely straight road for almost half a mile.

"There was three vehicles involved and there were three elderly people in one of the cars and I understand the victim was travelling in that car.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this sad time. I have to also pay tribute to the Fire Service and the Ambulance Service for their quick response. The weather conditions were good and I could see no reason why it happened where it did."
