Carnmoney boys take flight for footie fest

Next month the Under 8s and 9s (2002 year group) from Carnmoney FDC’s Co-Operative Insurance Football Skills Development Centre are travelling over to London to compete in the Easter and Spring Football Festival, a tournament they won last year.

In only the club’s second mainland endeavour, the boys, their families and coaches leave on Friday 27th May and will fly over to England for the three day tournament.

The teams participate in the Irish FA’s East Antrim and Greater Belfast Games Development Centres and have enjoyed a tremendous success during the season. In order to continue to challenge and develop the players, the 2002 squad were entered into this prestigious tournament, being eligible both for Under 8 and 9 competition, due to differences in the age categories within English FA.

This trip is a testament to how far Carnmoney FDC has come in only their third season. This year group has fundraised tirelessly to provide all the players with subsidised travel and accommodation for the three night stay in Butlins.

The team will compete against various established club sides from across the UK at the Festival. The ESFF combines 20 years of delivering the biggest football tournaments in the UK with superb holiday centres and star studded presentation ceremonies.

Head coach Paul Burns said: “Since the boys heard about the trip they have been extremely excited and this is something which everyone connected with our club is looking forward to.

“With football only one element of the trip, the boys and their families will have a great time. I would like to thank Paul Cullen (PDC Consulting) and David Handcock (DHL) for kindly sponsoring new kits and tracksuits for the boys to wear at the Festival.”
