Carrick woman Laura Nicholl jailed for assaulting two police officers

By Alan Erwin

A woman has been jailed for shoving two police officers who called to a house in Co Antrim.

Laura Nicholl (22) received a two-month prison sentence for the assaults and criminal damage.

Belfast Magistrates Court heard police were called to an address in Carrickfergus in the early hours of March 5.

A prosecution lawyer said when they arrived Nicholl shouted: "More f****** peelers, f*** away off."

Nicholl, of Rosebrook Grove in the town, then tried to slam the door shut. She pushed one constable in the chest before carrying out a similar assault on his female colleague.

Criminal damage was then caused to a PSNI vehicle.

With Nicholl having breached a previously suspended sentence, District Judge Fiona Bagnall Mrs Bagnall decided she had option than to send her to prison.

Imposing the two-month sentence for the new offences, the judge did not activate the suspended term.
