Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge in Co Antrim has been closed due to high winds.

Weather forecasters have predicted strong winds along the east coast on Thursday on a week where Northern Ireland was due to experience its first cold snap of the season.

Staff at the National Trust destination said they'll be re-assessing the situation shortly after midday on Thursday.

The rope, which is unique in Ireland, connects the coast to Carrick-a-Rede Island.

It's expected winds will die down by Friday, although the weather will be changeable and easterly breezes are set to continue.

There will be scattered showers spreading from the east during the afternoon.

Over the weekend, it will be mainly cloudy and changeable with showers as well as dry and bright spells.

It will be mild and frost free overnight.
